About Us
Who We Are
Harbor Unitarian Universalist Congregation is located at 1296 Montgomery in Muskegon, Michigan USA. The Congregation is affiliated with the Unitarian Universalist Association, a faith tradition that encourages each individual to develop a personal faith. Unitarian Universalism draws from many different religions, in the belief that no one religion has answers for all and that most have something to teach us. It is a way of being religious rather than embracing a specific religious doctrine.
HUUC is guided by our Mission, Vision, and Values, as well as policies that guide how our congregation is governed.
The following three minute video from the UUA explains more about what we believe.

We strive to be a house without walls, a congregation without spiritual boundaries. We aspire to be a harbor, a place of safety, peace and refuge from life’s storms. Our congregation is a community of openhearted, open-minded, nurturing individuals committed to making the world safe, peaceful, and just. We encourage each person to seek and find fulfillment wherever you are led in your faith journey.
Instead of insisting that all members believe the same things, UUs enter into a covenant with one another – we agree to hold ourselves and each other to a common standard based on our principles and Shared Values, which are in harmony with religious and non-religious traditions around the world and throughout ages.
What Do Unitarian Universalists Believe?
We are guided by 7 Principles in our faith and in our relationships with one another. Unitarian Universalists find spiritual inspiration in many places. The Unitarian Universalist Association identifies six Sources of Our Living Tradition that are foundational to UU tradition, faith formation, and history. We believe in loving our neighbors, working for a better world, searching for the truth with open hearts and minds, using reason to help us explore our spirituality and religious traditions, and the right of all people to choose their own beliefs.
It would be a mistake to say that UUs just believe “anything we want.” We are free to believe in what we must in order to remain true to our conscience, convictions, and reason. With so many different perspectives in our congregations, our 7 Principles and Shared Values are vitally important to guide our interactions. They remind us to respect everyone, including ourselves, and to approach new things with curiosity and kindness. We are all discovering faith together.
A Welcoming Congregation
HUUC is one of the 66% of UUA Congregations nationally that are certified as “Welcoming Congregations.” The Welcoming Congregation Program is a volunteer program for Unitarian Universalist congregations that “want to take intentional steps to become more welcoming and inclusive of people with marginalized sexual orientations and gender identities.”
