Social Justice Action Committee

Welcome! At Harbor UU Congregation (HUUC), we actively live our values by supporting social justice in our community and the larger world. The HUUC Social Justice Action Committee facilitates setting our congregational priorities and commitments as we seek to educate, advocate and take action in support of our values. Our goals align with the Michigan Unitarian Universalist Social Justice Network (MUUSJN) and the national UU Association (UUA).
Our current social justice priority areas include building connection, democracy/human rights, homelessness/poverty, and the environment.
Our 2026 aligned activities include:
- hosting monthly 3rd Space gatherings to build trusted connection with and between progressive GenZ and millennials
- supporting local efforts that uphold our democratic processes and constitutional rights
- engaging with the Mission for Area People Supper House via volunteers and financial support
- participating in the Muskegon area LGBTQ+ annual parade and welcoming table
- tutoring local youth in an underserved school
- sponsoring a mobile food truck for those in need
- educating and inspiring our congregation about our long UU history of social justice action and opportunities to engage.
Additionally, we plan to assess how HUUC can best engage with the UUA Climate & Environmental Justice initiatives in 2027.
