Religious Education
We believe education is very important. We understand that what we learn about the world, ourselves, and each other helps to shape who we are.
We have childcare available for our youngest congregants and classes for our elementary, middle, and high school youth on Sunday mornings. Our program is currently in a period of change and growth. Faith formation in Unitarian Universalism looks a little different than it does in some other churches and our Religious Education program coordinates opportunities for us to learn together, rather than teaching a particular religious viewpoint. We recognize that there are many different ways of seeing the world and we can learn from what different religions have to share. We have so much in common that we can discover through deeper study of the world’s religious, spiritual, and philosophical teachings.
We have a tradition of teaching:
- World religions
- UU Shared Values, 7 Principles, and history
- Study of the Sources of Our Living Tradition
- The renowned, comprehensive, and inclusive OWL (Our Whole Lives) lifespan sexuality program
- Service-oriented projects that allow youth and adults to connect to our wider community while living their values

Our Religious Education program has strong connections to teaching social justice topics, including encouraging our youth to make a difference in their community through service. Our youth also participate directly in the worship service at least once a quarter with opportunities for our young people to contribute each week through the chalice lighting or other elements of service.
The goal of HUUC’s faith formation programs is for all congregants, of any age, to learn how to explore their faith freely and responsibly while navigating a world that often feels increasingly unsteady. UUs develop their spiritual paths while following their conscience, leading to lifelong spiritual growth.
Our program is currently in a period of change and growth. We welcome input from our congregants who want to lead new adult faith formation opportunities as we continue to explore our spirituality together.
